Delaware Tech’s Mardi Gras Fundraiser Raises Nearly $118,000

The 19th annual Mardi Gras gala hosted by the 斯坦顿 and 威明顿 campuses drew approximately 450 guests to the newly renovated East Building on the George Campus. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and attendees, the event raised nearly $118,000. Net proceeds will help students in need pay for tuition, 书, and other essentials while attending Delaware Tech.
“The success of our Mardi Gras fundraiser requires a tremendous amount of planning, 努力工作, and creativity on the part of everyone involved in the event,” said College President Mark Brainard. “Thank you and congratulations to the planning committee, the volunteers, and our krewe leaders.”
The March 4 fundraiser kicked off with the unveiling of a new plaque in the McDowell Student Success Center honoring former 森. Harris McDowell, who worked for 10 years on legislation to provide free college tuition to Delaware high school graduates. 森. McDowell is also a longtime advocate of the College who was quick to support the legislation in 2019 that provided Delaware Tech with funding to address longstanding deferred maintenance issues, like those at the East Building in 威明顿.
This year’s Mardi Gras event also featured live entertainment from area bands, and food and drink from local restaurants, as well as Delaware Tech’s own culinary program. In addition, guests enjoyed activities that included a DJ, photo booth, and raffles.
“While our guests always have fun, the true reason for this annual fundraiser is to benefit our students, which is critical to delivering on our mission of keeping students at the center of everything we do,” Dr. Brainard said. “We appreciate the support of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers.”
Sponsors such as Tevebaugh Architecture; Santora CPA Group; Buck Simpers Architect + Associates, Inc.; Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership; and Delmarva Power were vital to raising the scholarship funds for students. The College has hosted the Mardi Gras fundraiser for the past 19 years, during which time it has raised nearly $2 million in gross proceeds.
